Today was the big day. I went to a new doctor today. I have told myself for years that I would get a new doctor, one who actually cared about me and my problems. Finally I did it. At least this new doctor seems proactive in helping me ease my pain. I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel by in 2004 and it used to be pretty mild. Carpal tunnel is linked with hypothyriodism, from which I also suffer. When I started complaining about 3 years ago that my CT is much worse, the doctor just kept testing my thyroid and didn't really seem to want to try anything else.
My new doc and I had a long talk today about my carpal tunnel, the numbness in my left leg and my thyroid. According to my blood work, my thyroid seems under control and we aren't going to mess with it unless I start to have symptoms again. Unfortunately, my carpal tunnel has been left basically untreated for so long that I could have permanent nerve damage. I get to go to an orthapedist for a surgery evaluation. Hopefully, they will opt for surgery another nerve conduction test, though my last one was over 4 years ago and they may require one. Surgery will happen, but we are just hoping to avoid a painfully test. My doc has also moved me to a low carb diet in order to reduce any swelling that I may have in my wrist. I will have to quit weight watchers for now in order to do an Adkins like diet. She said if we can get some of the pain gone, then I will be able to rejoin WW.
As for the numbness in my leg, it could be a variety of things and they took my blood to test for lots of things. If the tests come back normal, then I will have to go for an MRI. I am hoping it is just something easy like an electrolyte imbalance.
We'll see in a couple of weeks.

snow days
Yesterday was great! School was out due to a teacher work day and the boys and I got to play in the snow! We had so much fun. We went out first thing after breakfast. I then threw the snow stuff in the dryer and after it finished, we headed over to Amber's house to play in the snow so more. Amber and I took all the big kids out while two other moms stayed inside with the little babes.
We had a lot of fun and it was just a good day all around.
I have now been off Lexapro for 2 days and seem to be doing alright. I weaned myself off because I was just tired of the side effects.
Today it was very icy and the school system canceled the second teacher work day that was scheduled for today. That means that the students will not go back to school tomorrow as planned and will have to wait until Friday to resume school. Not cool! While I have been happy to have fun with all three boys, I have a babysitter tomorrow and I promised her that she was only going to have to watch two boys. She wasn't real thrilled when I said that she will have to watch all three.
I have to have a babysitter though because I am going to the doctor tomorrow.

Wednesday
Okay, I know it is now Thursday but I had to write about a couple of things that happened on Wednesday.
I went to the MOMS Club meeting in the morning and had a nice lunch with the youngest two boys. I put Sam down for his nap after Joe got home from school at 1:30. Anne Arundel County School had a two hour early dismissal yesterday (as well as today, tomorrow and Monday and then off school Tuesday and Wednesday).
I then had Joe try to teach me how to start the log splitter. We ran out of firewood on Tuesday and Jay didn't feel like splitting any after work on Tuesday. Our basement's only source of heat is the woodstove right now. Joe did pretty good explaining everything but after pulling on the cord forever, it still wouldn't start. I called Jay and it turns out that Joe was backwards in a few things. I changed it and then pulled a bit more and it started.
I split quite a pile of wood and called it a day after bringing in wood for the stove and starting the stove, though I then did dishes. When Jay got home at 5:30, I told him that I was not cooking dinner. I gave him the option of eating out or cooking and we loaded the kids and headed out. I don't like eating out because the food is never very good for the price that we pay and the service usually isn't great. Last night was okay, not great, but not horrible either.
On the way home from the restaurant, Joe asked what stores stay open all night. We told him the names of a few and then he asked "What about Geico?" We answered that yes it is open all night but that it wasn't really a store. He asked what it was and we explained that they sold car insurance and that you paid a little each month and then if you had an accident, they would fix your car. Joe asked if car insurance was expensive and we both replied yes. Then Joe said "but you can save a bunch of money by switching to Geico." Jay and I laughed so hard because Joe was so serious! Oh my it was so funny!
The rest of the evening was uneventful, though Lost did premier and of course, I watched it and was sucked in again. So much for me not watching as much tv this year!

Today
Today did not start off great at all!
Sammy woke up while I was in the shower. Jay was still sleeping and did not really hear Sam get up. We haven't had a problem with Sam and his diapers since we moved him to his big boy bed. I got out of the shower and Sam was trying to get his door open while saying "eewww" and "yuck".
I opened the door to find Sam mostly naked and covered in poop. He had gotten up and tried to change his own diaper. He took his pj's off and climbed up onto the chair in his room to reach the wipes off the dresser and then sat on the floor and tried to wipe himself. His diaper was still mostly on (he had pulled it down quite a bit).
Unfortunately, he got poop everywhere all over his room. Jay and Sammy hit the shower while I got to scrub the room. Of course, Sam's new rug was all gross, his chair, his door, his walls, his bed, everything. Yuck!
Lunchtime was a very historic moment for our country and the two youngest boys and I watched President Obama while we ate our lunch. Joe got to watch it at school and was really interested in the whole thing. My mom and sister stood in the crowds in DC and got to witness it all first hand (though couldn't see anything!)
I have several Gatherings for Close To My Heart coming up and was requested that I design a Valentine's Day card for the make and take. For some reason, I have crafting block. I make a few things and hate them. I showed them to Jay and he pretty much agreed with me that they weren't very good. Ahhh! So frustrated since I have a party on Friday and Sunday and I need a project for them.
I did do something to day that has been needing done for a few years. I finally changed my primary care doctor. I have strongly disliked my doctor every since I met her several years ago. I just am lazy and have never gotten around to changing it. I finally did! I am really hoping that I like the new doctor better. I will go to her for the first time next week. I am having a fair number of minor and not so minor health problems. My husband is completely convinced that I have a few major diseases. My most major issue is the pain in my arms and hands. If I could get rid of that, I would for the most part be fine. We'll see if the new doctor actually cares about my issues and helps me.

My 2009 goals!
Okay, I know I am a little late in posting this, but better late than never!
I have some pretty big goals and some pretty small ones too. There are some that I am really sure I will succeed in and others I am really worried about. I have sorted them into categories.
Scrapbooking:
My goal is to make 100 2 page layouts this year in an effort to "catch up" on my long list of scrapbooking projects.
My goal is to get together at least twice a month with friends to scrapbook. One of the joys of scrapbooking for me is the social interaction that it gives me.
My goal is to finish all three boys' baby books. Joe's is mostly completed, Tom's is started and Sam's is not started.
Weight loss/exercise:
My goal is to hit Goal this year. I am having a really hard time with Weight Watchers right now. I don't like the new program and I am just really irritated that they changed their program. (Which, of course, I stuck it to them by over-eating this holiday season). I can't seem to make up my mind about staying with Weight Watchers or trying to 'go it alone'.
My goal is to do 60 miles in 30 days on the treadmill. Other walking that I do won't count towards the total. This is just a goal for me to get back to using the treadmill that takes up space in the basement.
My goal is to walk at least 12,000 steps a day for the next 30 days. As long as I wear my pedometer and walk on the treadmill, I should be able to do this!
Business:
My goal is to grow my business this year. I want be a manager by the end of the year.
My goal is to teach 1 class and 1 workshop each month starting in February.
My goal is to hold 6 card making classes this year.
My goal is to earn the Incentive Cruise. I have to earn it by the end of September in order to go on it next year!
Hopefully things will go well!

trapped
When Jay first excepted the job in Maryland, my only question was would we be able to afford a small farm here? Yes of course was his answer.
Well, we made a few househunting trips and found out that the answer was much more of a maybe so we found a place to rent for a year instead.
In late winter/early spring 2002, Jay and I came very very close to writing a contact on a 25 acre property in Baltimore County. While working on the contract over a series of weeks, we found out I was pregnant and we decided to wait.
Jay and I struck a compromise. We would buy a house and live in it for 4-5 years and then buy a farm and move. That was over 6 1/2 years ago. Two years ago, Jay came home from work and annouced he would be ready to move in 18 months. However a year after that was said, he started dragging his feet and we started fighting.
I bring it up again every few months because I really truely feel trapped in this place. I like my yard, love my neighbors, but hate the roads and not a huge fan of the too small house that's not at all what I want out of a house.
I try my best to be thankful for what we have, but some days (especially in the rain) I just feel very trapped.
I understand all of Jay's concerns about moving, but I am not sure that he understands me and why I need to move. He keeps making plans that involve us staying in this house and it is really starting to feel like I am going to be stuck here.
Unfortunately, we really can't afford to add on or fence the yard. We can only afford a bigger house by selling the one we have a moving somewhere less expensive.

all is calm, for now
As I am typing this, I am listening to Tommy softly singing some non-sense song downstairs and Sam is napping. Joe is probably asleep too, though I am afraid to check on him and risk waking him up.
Poor Joe woke me up at 2:30 in the morning by throwing up in his room. I cleaned him up and got him back to bed with a large bowl and he was doing it all over again less than 30 minutes later. Unfortunately, he had thought he could make it to the bathroom and didn't even make it off the rug in his room. So I cleaned him, cleaned the rug and got him back into bed. At 6:30, this morning, he sprinted out of his room for the bathroom for round 3, this time along with diarrhea. Today was supposed to be his first day back at school after break, but there was just no way for him to go to school.
He seems to be feeling slightly better. He ate only about 1/3 of his breakfast and 1/2 of his lunch, but for now, the trips to the bathroom have stopped. I really hope he is getting some much needed rest.
Our holiday break went fairly well, though Jay and I did not get as many things done as we would have liked. I wanted to get the house cleaned from top to bottom, but only succeeded in getting the office cleaned. At least it is a start. I'm sure that I could get up and clean right now, but I don't want to wake the kids. Haha
Sammy really irrated me over the break because he has been picking at and ripping off the wallpaper border in his bedroom. He has completely ruined it on one side and he started on the opposite wall today. He does it when he is supposed to be going to sleep for his nap or at night. He really thinks it is a lot of fun to get in and out of his big boy bed! Thankfully, all poop painting seems to have stopped for now!!
I could not get back to sleep last night and right now, I am having the hardest time not falling asleep.
Yawn!
