So on Sunday afternoon, we decided to put all three kids down for a nap/break. They'd been up so late the night before that they just needed some rest. Sam, who'd had the most sleep the night before, was the only one that actually slept. Tom laid in his bed and rested and Joe laid in Jay and I's bed with Jay and rested. I hung out on the couch with my computer. My goal was to find a moms' group and a scrapbooking group.
I failed.
The closest moms' group (at least online) is about 45 minutes away. That's too far. I didn't find a scrapbook group, but I did find the closest scrapbook store...1 hour away. It (like every other retail store) closes at 5:30 in the afternoon and isn't open on Sunday. They do hold Friday night crops twice a month after closing time so hopefully, I will be able to go to some of those. I love scrapbooking, but part of the fun is how social it is.
Of course, I am not much of a social butterfly really. I spent three years in Maryland before I met the MOMS Club and I only knew people at work. And they weren't really people I'd like to hang out with outside of work. They were all either much younger or much much older than me.
So, of course, this failure to easily find anything compounded the little bit of homesickness I'd been feeling. I pretty much spent the afternoon down in the dumps.
I dislike feeling that way. I've spent so much time being content and happy here that I don't want any bad or negative feelings. I don't like feeling any doubt or any thoughts that maybe this was a mistake. Because all the other time, I feel pretty good and I'm happy with being here. Yesterday, was a bit of a downer though.
I'm hoping that once we get moved into our house and out of Nelson Bay, it will be a little better. Nelson Bay is a get vacation spot and a great retirement spot, but it's not such a great spot to meet other moms. We've met a few at the playground, but they're on vacation from places like Brisbane or Melbourne. Both of which are really far away.
The schools are on holiday right now and won't start back up until the 19th. We've got all the forms to fill out to apply for school for Joe and Tom. We can't apply until after school starts again, so we got a couple of weeks.
Happy 4th of July to all my family and friends.
